Seminar on Thalassemia Awareness Organized at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Kapurthala by Internationally Renowned Inner Wheel Club


A significant Seminar on Thalassemia awareness was organized at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Urban Estate, Kapurthala, in collaboration with the internationally renowned Inner Wheel Club, Kapurthala. The aim of the seminar was to spread awareness about the disease among students and faculty members.
On this occasion, Dr. Surjit Kaur, Member of the Board of Directors of the Inner Wheel Club, attended as the Chief Resource Person, while Dr. Meena Sethi(President), Mrs. Rajita Gupta (Vice President), and Prof. Navdeep Kaur (Member) participated as special guests.
The Principal of the college, Dr. Baldev Singh Dhillon, welcomed the chief resource person and the distinguished guests with beautiful bouquets. While inaugurating the seminar, Dr. Dhillon stated that the main objective of the event was to educate students and teachers about the causes, symptoms, and preventive measures of Thalassemia.
During the seminar, the chief resource person Dr. Surjit Kaur addressed the students and explained that Thalassemia is a hereditary disorder that affects the body’s ability to produce healthy hemoglobin. Patients suffering from this disease often require regular blood transfusions and continuous medical care. She also emphasized the importance of screening tests before marriage and during pregnancy in order to prevent the spread of the disease. She encouraged young people to undergo a simple blood test to determine whether they are carriers of the Thalassemia gene.
Information was also shared about the symptoms, treatment methods, and the importance of blood donation. It was strongly emphasized that Thalassemia testing before marriage is essential to prevent the disease from passing on to the next generation.
It was further highlighted that patients suffering from Thalassemia require regular blood transfusions, and society should come forward to support them through voluntary blood donation.
During the seminar, students and teachers actively asked questions and gained detailed knowledge about the disease.
At the conclusion of the seminar, Dr. Meena Sethi, President of the Inner Wheel Club thanked the college Principal and the entire staff for organizing the successful event. She also stated that the club will continue to organize such awareness programs in the future. She encouraged students to remain aware about this disease and to spread awareness among others as well.
The stage proceedings were efficiently conducted by Prof. Varinder Kaur.
On this occasion, Prof. Manjinder Singh Johal, Dr. Amrik Singh, Prof. Damanjeet Kaur, Prof. Jaspreet Kaur, Prof. Sandeep Singh, and a large number of students were also present.
