"THE ART OF LIVING "
Living is really an art. It is based on the good principles of man's behaviour end attitude to life. Life has different meaning for different people. For some it is a duty to be performed sincerely. For others it is a pleasure to be enjoyed thoroughly. Very few people know the real purpose of life. Life has today become a very complicated affair. It has ceased to be an art and has grown into a science. Man's day begins on a hectic note and ends like a worn-out machine at night.
Generally speaking most men are dissatisfied with life. There is no end to their grumbling. They keep craving for one thing after the other. If a person has wealth, he suffers from ill-health. If he has both health and wealth, he has no issue. If he has all these, his children are spoilt. The truth of the matter is that nature never gives pure and perfect happiness to a person. Man has built big buildings, he has invented means of luxury and comfort, but he has lost the art of living.
The real art of the living lies in looking at the bright side of things. Man should accept the things as they come to him. Man should do his duty and leave the result to God. This is what the Gita teaches us. Swami Vivekanand has also stressed the need to achieve detachment in life. If a person does his duty with disinterestedness, he can get joy and satisfaction even in small things. This type of attitude keeps him free from the worries of life.
The art of living lies in being noble and peaceful, in doing selfless service and struggle. Wealth can buy comforts of life but not peace and happiness. Wealth may be a means but definitely not the end of life.
However, the art of living has undergone a change. It has become thoroughly materialistic and opportunistic. Human values have been set at naught. Promotion of the self is uppermost in every human heart. Man has become self-centred. He thinks of his own welfare, or at the most of his friends and relatives. The best art of living is to form certain ideals and live up to them at all costs.
